Is Peeta Sincere?

After Katniss and Peeta get to the Capitol and begin their preparation for the arena, Haymitch, Cinna, and Effie begin presenting them as a team. Peeta happily goes along with their instructions, but Katniss begins questioning this strategy, wondering whether she can trust Peeta's sincerity since he will eventually be forced to kill her. What do you think? Is Peeta sincere, or is he just playing to the crowd to earn their favor for himself? Should Katniss trust Peeta? Why or why not? Give specific examples from the text to support your answer.

  1. I think that Peeta is a trustworthy person. I would trust him esspecially because he saved my life when Katniss was 11 years old. I also disagree with trusting him because he could just want the sponsers for him to hopefully help him stay alive so he can have that honor of winning. She should trust Peeta because they are from the same district and they are kind of friends. She shouldn't trust him because he could just want the sponsers to help him stay alive because he probably doesn't want to die.\

  2. No i do not think he is being sincere. I think that he is just trying to win katniss over and kill her as soon as they get in the arena. No katniss should not trust peeta he is just playing a game on her and is going to kill her right away in the arena. pg.72 peta is planning to kill you. he is luring you in as easy prey.

  3. i think he is not sincere. he could be lieing and as soon as they get in the arena he will kill her. it could all be a plan and he could make her think he is good. he will be good and keep it low until he gets in the arena.

  4. I think that Peeta is trusting because he gave Katniss the bread a long time before they were both in the hunger games. He also might not have to kill her, he could just not do anything, and then wait for someone else to kill her.

  5. I think Peeta is trustworthy because he helped Katniss when she was younger. He saved her life. They are somewhat friends, and they both come from the same district so they should be able trust each other and be sincere. Peeta also has a choice; he doesn’t have to kill Katniss. Someone else could instead of him killing some he knows better than anyone else in the games.

  6. I think that Peeta wants try and trick everybody into thinking that he is an easy target. This way when poeple wait and go for him last he can just kill them. Then he could also just be being sincere but that doesn't seem likely since people have done what he is doing before. His strategy might get Katniss or it might not but he can't do that for the other contestents because they aren't with them.

    1. Amen to that brother! I agree with you 100% because I have the feeling that Peeta really likes her and that he's pretending to pretend so that it actually turns out that he's not pretending but he pretending that he isn't. Does that make sense to you? In other words I think that he REEAAAALLLLLYYY digs Katniss all the way and DOESn't want to see nher die.

    2. No i think Peeta is evil and is just trying to get Katniss on his side but then will betray her and will try to kill her. He is pretending to be nice but he actually isnt.

  9. I think that Peeta is very sincere because he helps her out when they are younger by burning the bread and giving the bread to Katniss. Also on the wagon into the Capital Katniss felt unstable, she was holding on to Peeta's hand which made her feel stable. If I was Katniss I really would NOT trust him because than he could find out what was my strengths and weaknesses and then use in agents me. I would not tell him the truth I would be going along with what Peeta was saying.

  10. I think Katniss should trust Peeta, because he has always been kind to her. He gave her bread when she was starving so she didn't die. I dont think that peeta is playing to the crowd i think he is just trying to be nice.

  13. I think Peeta is sincere about giving her the burnt bread when they were younger but if I were Katniss I would still be cautious around him until she gets to know him a little better.

  14. I think Katniss should not trust Petta because it might just be a trick. He is doing this to get the most sponsers. He is not sincere. This is just a play to make Katniss make a fool of her self. Munaf D.

  15. Peeta is sincere to Katniss because he is really nice and kind to her. I don't think this is an act because in the end of sec. 1 Peeta prounced his love to her. Peeta is looking out for her, I think.

  16. I think Peeta is sincere yo Katniss because he is tryimg to get her trust. During the Games he is going to leave her, but he still is looking out for her. Very hidden personality.

  17. I think Peeta is sincere to Katniss because they have their ups and downs, but in the end all Peeta is trying to do is gain her trust. He is always nice to her and it also seems like he cares for her because when they were outside, Peeta took off his jacket to give it to Katniss so she wouldn't get cold. Another example would be when Peeta announced his crush on Katniss so this must mean he cares for her. These are just a few examples from the text for why I think Peeta is sincere.

  18. I think Peeta is because he is very kind and seems very trust worthy. plus before peeta gave Katniss the bread many years before he was picked for the games. Katniss dosent need to worrie about him any ways now after what he said in the interview but maybe others do. he just seems trust worthy and kind so i would trust him if I was katniss.

  19. I think Peeta is being sincere, it seems as if he looks out for her. He knows what she is good at and all her qualities. When they were little he even looked out for her. Peeta gave her the bread and you can tell that he cares, it seems as if he burnt the bread on purpose just to keep her alive. Even though he had been smacked for burning the bread

  21. I believe peeta is sincere. He is always nice to her no matter what happens. When she is struggling for survival he helps her by giving her bread. Peeta seems as if he really likes her almost seeming to be a trick but it is not. He is willing to do anything for katniss no matter what the consequence is.

  22. I believe that Peeta is sincere because he talked about all those things that Katniss never knew he even payed attention to. Although Katniss needs to keep an eye out just in case because he could just be lying to get sponsers. Truthfully, considering he gave her bread so she would not die of starvation seems like he is pretty sincere. Peeta has always seemed to be a good guy and also they had that little connection with the dandelion.

  23. i think Peeta is sincere. i think Peeta is sincere because he is telling katniss all these things about her that she thought no one paid much attention to. katniss might be scared and still nervouse in front of the capitol, but she needs to find someone to trust and to talk to and peeta could definatley be that someone. another reason Peeta is sincere is because he is not afraid to share his feelings with Katniss, even if she didnt want to share hers back. 24. I think Peeta is sincere, because he doesn't want to kill Katniss. He said at his interview that he has a crush on her. Katniss has to trust him because she might want him on her side as an allie in the when the time comes. Peeta gave her the bread when she was hungry in the street, so clearly she owes him for that deed he did. Peeta also saved her during dinner so that's twice Katniss owes him.

  25. Yes i do think that Peeta is being sincere. I believe that his is sincere because you can tell that he pays alot of attention to her in the District. Also, he really wouldnt have a motive to be insincere BEFORE the games started. When he gavee her the bread, he knew he would get punished for burning it, but he did that to give it to Katniss.

  26. I would trust Petta bacause of how nice he is to Katniss at the hotel and how he saved her saying that the Avox girl actually looked familir from school and all the stuf he showed her and also the edvice he gave Katniss before all the games but its also questionable because he did ask to be coached seperatly from Katniss it was likes he was trying to go against her and find her right away because he knows all of Katniss's skills with bows and her power Jordan O

  27. I think that Katniss should trust Peeta, because he seems nice and he helps her along the way at the capital and even before the reaping with the bread situation.

  28. I think Peeta is sincere. I think he really does like Katniss. I think that Peeta asked to be coached seperetly is because when they anounced the score that all of the tributes got he felt weak or uncomparible to Katniss because she got an 11, but i do think he is sincere.
