May the Odds Be Ever in Your Favor...

It is the day of the reaping and all of District 12 has gathered within the square as mandated by the Capitol. All are shcoked to find little Prim has been called to be tribute, and then Katniss takes her place. The response of the community, I think, speaks volumes about the people gathered there. What does it show us?

  1. This book is sooo addicting. I love it! I can't out this book down. Katniss is a really nice sister to take Primrosse's place in the Hunger Games. Katniss seems like a really strong girl. I bet she will win the Hunger Games. Thats my prediction^

  2. Katniss is a protective person because she takes prim's place for the hunger games. This will help in the hunger games because she wont lose her weapons. I like this book a lot and is hard to put down. Can we read the second book together as a class.

  3. I shows us that Katniss cares enough about her sister fate that she is willing to put her life endanger to protct her. I know she will last a long time through the hunger games with her hunting expierience and all that Gale and her father have tought her.

  4. Well this seams more of an old fashioned tradition but it was not forgoten by the district. This showed the meaning of what Katniss did for Prim. Her actions showed the true love and care for her younger sister. Everyone will remember what happened that day and Katniss will never be forgotten. I think with all the hunting experience she has had throughout her life was her training for the Hunger Games. I think katniss can win the Hunger Games!

  5. It shows us that Katniss really cares about her sister and will do anything to protect her. Katniss loves her sister so much and is the only person she can trust. Ever since her dad died, her mom was not being a good parent and gave up. When Katniss was leaving for the Capitol, Prim hugged her for a long time showing us the affection between them. Munaf D.

    1. I agree completely with Munaf because Katniss really does love her sister. It just so happens to be that Katniss does not think her little sister can win the hunger games. I think it was kind of rude that she did that. Not having faith in her sister is like calling her a wimp.

  6. It shows that Katniss really cares about Prim and wants to protect her. Ever scense her dad dies, her mom has changed and now Katniss takes her place to keep her and her family alive and healthy. She always goes out for hunting for food so they can eat.

  7. The response is that Katniss really loves and cares for her sister. The community feels that Katniss is brave and loving to save her sister's life, and to risk her own life in the process.

  8. It is showing that Katniss cares so much for her sister that she is willing her life to keep her safe. She may not like to do this risky move but the last thing she needs is to see the sister Prim die in the Hunger Games. Prim doesn't want her sister to go, but if Katniss won't them Prim will have to. Katniss is surprised when she herself wanted to volunteer for Prim. It also shows a sign of courage and bravery.

    1. I totally agree with you nimish. Since you have a siter would you care for your sister as much as Katniss? If so how would you take care of your sister? What kinds of emotions would you have while taking of your sister? Would this affect your daily life?

  9. I'm so glad that you are all thinking about Katniss and the character traits she shows when she volunteers to take Prim's place as tribute. The question, though, was about the reaction of the crowd--their silent salute. What does this tell us about District 12, its people, and what they think of Katniss, the Hunger Games, and the Capitol?

    1. Hi miss Jacobson or Butalla. Umm I'm definatlynot a robot. I was just wondering if you could make those words that prove I'm not a robot easier to read because i've had to retype some responses cuz I couldn't make out the Words. thanks for your time.

    2. Ryan--I'm so sorry! I know you are not a robot, but unfortunately, I cannot change that part of the blog. If someone else is close by, I suggest having them double check those words with you. You could also "copy" your work before you try to publish it so if it doesn't believe you are human, you can just "paste" the same response instead of retyping the whole thing again. That's the best I can do. Sorry :(

  10. they gave her the silent solute which is very honoring. It means thanks, aberation, love, goodbye and rebellion against the capitol. This is very honoring toward katniss because she was the one who steped up for her sister when she got picked to be a tribute. Now district 12 will never forget katniss.

  11. Truly, I think that is was so kind of all of district 12 to tell Katniss thanks, love, goodbye and admiration. I think Katiniss was so brave to take prims place in the games. That must mean that Katniss is brave, strong, and willing to be such a great sister, instead of having Primrose do the games. It was very honoring for Katniss to step up for her sister and be the tribute. This mean Katniss is truly sweet, kind, nice and cares so much about her sister to take her place.

  13. Katniss is totally beast when it comes to defending and protecting her family. it's honestly no suprise that she took Prim's place seeing how protective and caring she is. I can tell that Prim does not want her sister to take her place. But older siblings are awesome in so many ways. Take it from me, I am one.

  14. Katniss is good at protecting her family. But her mom must help them. Prim is only 12 and cant do it by herself thats why katniss is go to win the hunger games.

    1. Yeah Katniss is definatly going to win the hunger games. If she didn't that would be a stupid ending and I would be like "I read this whole time for nothin'. What a rip off!"

  15. This book is amazing!!!! Katniss is such a good, caring sister for standing up for little Primrose. Katniss is a very loving sister; Katniss is very brave because everyone but one person lives. Everyone will try their best to kill her and for Katniss it will be a challenge that she wants to overcome for little Primrose. After Katniss and Primrose’s father died and their mom gave up, Katniss learned how to take charge and protect he mom and sister which it paid off in the long run.

  16. This book is one of my favorite books but its so long. It is exciting because it has lots of action. Katniss is strong and is caring for primrose and gale. Katniss is the one who supports her family.

  18. I think Katniss must really love her sister. She takes great care of her and took her place in the Hunger Games. This really shows because no one took Peeta's place. This was such a nice thing to do and I hope Prim is supporting Katniss.

  19. I think that when they are all gathered for the reaping, when Katniss takes Prims place, the comunity shows lots of love. Mosst of them probably know how much Katniss loves Prim, so they showed her lots of love like katniss did to prim.

  20. I think Katniss is a great big sister. She is loving and trustworthy. Katniss pretty much runs her family (in a good way). Then when her sister gets called she took her place. This was big and shows because no one took Peeta's place. Best of luck to Katniss.

  21. I agree with Ryan Huck, this would be a very short, and stupid book if Katniss dies. Also, the fact that she had "practice" for the Games by hunting for food in the woods gives her an advantage and others a disadvantage.

  22. District 12 shows dislike for the capitol by not clapping when katniss took prims place as a tribute. Her bravery is so strong that she is making a sacrifice for her sister so prim can live a wondeful life. its kinda interesting how district 12 was united and there show of silent salute.

  23. This shows how much Katniss cares about Prim, and now she will risk her own life to save Prim's life. I think that when the crowd is silent, it is just because everyone is stunned, because no one ever volunteers in District 12. Also with all of Katniss' hunting experience, she will have a huge advantage over everyone else. I actually think that she can win!

  25. The book is awesome so far. I love it!I think Katniss is a great big sister, and role model. She was brave to step up for Prim when she was called as a tribute. She is doing a great job of looking after her mom and Prim.
